Well it is a busy time of year, but we would be remiss if we did not take a few moments and wish everyone a Merry Christmas. We are so grateful for all of you out there that take time our of your day to check in on the Quinney Family. We wish we could get a individual Christmas Card out to all of you to say how much we appreciate you. We say thanks to all of our "heart" friends, our community, our ward and anyone else who has touched our lives. These "tender mercies" that have been shown to us throughout this past year bear special meaning during this holiday of giving.
Bryson was down at Primary Children's last week for a couple of days. One day he underwent a 14 month developmental screening as part of a study to see the effects of CHD on the development of the heart kids. The next day he underwent a sedated echo and cardiology appointment. Things on the echo looked good with some minor AV valve leakage and they still list an unspecified murmur that they still have not pinpointed the cause. He is still needing to be on oxygen 24/7, as he battles the cold/flu time of year. Living at 7,000 feet does not aid in the cause, but he is a fighter. They did keep him on his medication to regulate his heart rhythm and to prevent any more episodes of SVT. The doctors don't want to repeat the last time he came off the medication and had a bout with SVT, with his heart beat jumping up to 300 beats a minute and then having to cardiovert (shock) his heart down to a normal sinus rhythm. They did up the dosage to match his growth and will keep him on it for the foreseeable future. He will go back to the Ped doctor for the other half of his flu shot soon and they are going to keep tabs on his head size and determine if they need to do an MRI. The cardiologist did say that Hypoplastic Heart kids so tend to have bigger heads because of the dynamics of the passive flow of blood from his head and neck into his pulmonary artery which results in increased pressures in his head. We are always learning new things.
