Well today Bryson is 18 months old and time for a cardiology checkup. It is hard to believe that it has been almost a year since the Glenn Surgery. The checkup went well and they are placing a Holter Monitor on him for 24 hours to monitor his heart rates. The last time he was in the hospital he had episodes where his rates would drop to lower then normal. They want to make sure this is still not happening. If the rates continue to drop or accelerate then it may be that a pacemaker is needed. A pacemaker is not all that uncommon in single ventricle heart kids.
They also talked about his next surgery, the third stage , which is called the Fontan. This surgery can take place anytime between now and five years old depending on the situation. The first line of thought was to shoot for this time next year after RSV season in the hospital. But due to the fact that Bryson has been back on Oxygen for quite awhile and has not been able to come back off of it, the new goal is to try and do the surgery pre-RSV season at Primary's. So the plan will be to do an echo and a cath in mid-September and then the Fontan either near the end of Sept or the beginning of October. We have always known that a third surgery would come, it just brings it all into focus now that we are talking about possible dates. If he ends up needing a pacemaker, that could require a procedure prior to that but we won't know that for a little bit. He will wear the monitor for 24 hours and then we will mail it back to Primary's and we should know some results next week.
The appointment today allowed Jennylin to be at the Hospital, while our nephew Sam had another surgery on his sinuses. Things went well it sounds like and while he will continue to receive treatment for Cystic Fibrosis, his sinuses should now be cleaned up to allow him to breathe much better. Sam and Bryson will be close cousins as they both share badges of courage!

I am so glad to hear that things are going better. You guys have some tough kids. What an inspiration.
