Sunday Morning

The reason that we have not been able to go home so far is due to the build up of fluids in the pleural cavity of the chest. This is the space between the chest and the lungs. The build up of fluid on the outside of the lungs then places extra pressure on the lungs making it more difficult to breathe. So with more fluid the more difficult it is to breathe. They contemplated putting back in a chest tube to drain this excess fluid but are trying to get it to drain with medication. His XRay this morning is still showing a good amount of fluid on his right side. The Dr would like to try and give it one more day to drain off before putting back in a chest tube. Bryson will go down here in a bit and get another Xray with a different view to help them decide how significant the fluid level is. So needless to say this means that it will be another day or two before Bryson will be able to go home. We are hoping that he will not end up needing a chest tube but know that it could be a very real possibility tomorrow if the diuretic medication does not drain off the fluid like it is supposed to.
